Welcome to our website,
The ICELT course is a part-time and in-service course run
by BUSEL with accreditation from the University of Cambridge
ESOL. The course is primarily designed with a view to
improving the teaching skills of instructors who are at
different stages of their careers - for experienced teachers
who may want to consolidate their practice and develop their
teaching skills, or for inexperienced instructors who wish
to build on their initial training. The course also provides
an excellent foundation for any instructor who may want to
take the DELTA course later on.
The course content and format are in line with the
University of Cambridge (ESOL) ICELT course syllabus
requirements. The main strands that make up the course are
Classroom Practice, which includes the development of the
instructor's methodology and the theory that underpins their
practice, and Language Development, which dwells on the
theory and practice of language teaching and development.
The input sessions, together with the instructor's teaching
practice and their classroom research enable the
participants to work on their personal development and to
improve their skills in the above mentioned areas. Regular
meetings with course tutors, help with assignments and peer
observations have also been specified in the course syllabus
to further help participants improve their theory and
practice of language teaching in an academic context.
All course work is woven around the main strands and each
participant builds up a portfolio of her/his work. The
content of the course and how it is delivered are internally
assessed and externally moderated to ensure that quality
standards are adhered to.
